The Ride
by Douglas A. Cox
The cedar embers warm the room
And cast a fragrant light
The children kissed and put to bed
This is a special night
Ouside the full moon paints the snow
Ice crystals fill the air
For it is barely ten above
A Christmas Eve to share
So out the door and on the sled
And down the frozen hill
Through pine and juniper and silence
I remember still
I ride down all the years and miles
The memories are clear
Past all of the joy, the tears and the smiles
I keep it all right here
What treasure all these years have brought
What glories lie ahead?
Gifts that just cannot be bought
Words yet to be said
Inside the cabin snug and warm
With covers pulled up tight
The children dream of what I know
Upon this holy night
"A prayer of thanks for friends and family,
The courage to ride with joy in our hearts
And a growing faith in our soul!"
