Butterfly Shadows
by Douglas A. Cox
Summer comes in on golden wings
And lands on the flower of time
It drinks of the nectar and shows off its color,
Slowing life's rhythm and rhyme.
We glance at the afternoon, bufferfly shadows,
Then we turn back to our tasks.
So much to get done and errands to run,
Not hearing what Summer asks:
"Have you slowed down enough to hug one another?
Have you watched the fireflies dance?"
Have you heard the laughter of children at play?
Have you stopped to give Summer a chance?
"The year is past its midpoint now
The door is closing fast
And all too soon these days will take wing
And our summertime will have passed.
So now, while the butterfly rests on the moment
Let us make a promise to keep
That the seeds of love will be what we sow
And joy... the harvest we reap.
"Make every precious moment count...
Live, love and remember!"
